Passive filtration that fits any kitchen extract system

Multi Filter Units (MFUs) are modular filter boxes designed specifically for commercial kitchen extract systems. Installed in-line with the kitchen extract ductwork, they collect oil, grease, smoke particles, and odors through a combination of passive air filters, panel, bag, HEPA, and carbon, in a single configurable housing.

The MFU's modular design means units can be configured in various combinations to handle any required extract flow rate, providing effective and cost-efficient kitchen extract filtration. Units are held in stock for rapid deployment, no lead times. The high-quality housing is effortlessly serviced, with filters that can be replaced or reconfigured to maintain performance throughout the unit's service life.

MFUs are used standalone in lower-intensity applications and as a complement to active ESP systems in higher-demand environments, extending service intervals and capturing the particulates and odors that mechanical filtration alone cannot address.

The benefits of MFU filtration

  • Removes oil, grease, smoke particles, and odors from kitchen extract airstreams
  • Filters particles down to submicron levels with HEPA configuration
  • Significantly reduces grease buildup within the duct run, reducing fire risk and cleaning frequency
  • Modular design, configure for any extract flow rate requirement
  • Held in stock, no lead times, rapid deployment for new builds and retrofits
  • UL certified, approved for the US market

Four passive filter types, one modular housing

MFU units can be configured with any combination of the following filter types depending on your application requirements.

Panel Filters

Panel Filters

Used as standalone pre-filters or as a pre-filter to bag filters. Captures oil and grease particles from the extract airstream. Commonly used as the first filtration stage in multi-filter configurations.

Key spec

High-efficiency particulate capture, up to 95% at micron size

Bag Filters

Bag Filters

Applied as a pre-filter to carbon cells in odor extraction applications, capturing oil and grease particles ahead of the carbon filter stage to extend carbon service life. Available in multiple efficiency grades.

Key spec

Extended surface area for higher-volume applications

HEPA Filters

HEPA Filters

Removes up to 99.97% of particles down to submicron level. Primarily used for smoke particle removal in commercial kitchen and medical environments. Available in multiple grades to suit application requirements.

Key spec

99.97% efficiency at 0.3 microns

Carbon Filters

Carbon Filters

Site-safe activated carbon panels that remove malodorous gases from the commercial kitchen extract duct. When used with panel or bag pre-filtration, carbon service life is significantly extended. Effective on cooking odors, VOCs, and chemical compounds.

Key spec

Activated carbon adsorption of odors and gaseous compounds

Filter configurations are selected based on your cooking type, extract volume, and odor control requirements. Contact us and we'll specify the right combination for your application.

How it works

Cooking particulates and odors generated
Canopy grease filter captures initial grease
MFU unit treats remaining particulates and odors in-duct
Cleaner air discharged or returned to kitchen

MFU units fit in-line with the kitchen extract ductwork between the canopy and the point of discharge. Passive filtration requires no power beyond the existing extract fan, making the MFU the most cost-effective element of any kitchen extract filtration system. Filter combinations are selected at installation and can be reconfigured as requirements change.

MFU systems support compliance with NFPA 96 (Standard for Ventilation Control and Fire Protection of Commercial Cooking Operations) by significantly reducing grease accumulation in extract ductwork, one of the primary causes of commercial kitchen fires. HEPA configurations support compliance with local authority air quality requirements and planning conditions requiring demonstrable particulate control at the exhaust point. Our team can advise on the right MFU configuration to meet your applicable compliance requirements.
