CNC Coolant Saver Savings Calculator
Estimate how much coolant, disposal cost, and manual handling you could eliminate, and understand your potential payback period in minutes.
Industrial CNC machining operations lose significant amounts of usable coolant every year through swarf removal, drag-out, and waste handling. The Wogaard Coolant Saver recovers that fluid and returns it to your machine's reservoir automatically. This calculator estimates the real, site-specific savings based on your operation, using conservative assumptions from real-world CNC machining environments.
Estimate your savings
Coolant Saver Savings Calculator
The Wogaard Coolant Saver recovers coolant carried out of the machine with the chips, the wet coolant that pools in the bottom of your chip bin and gets hauled away with the swarf. This calculator estimates how much of that drag-out you can recover and return to the sump.
Your inputs
Coolant clinging to chips that ends up in the swarf bin. Wet chips can carry away up to 12% of coolant by weight, and total daily losses (drag-out, splashing, misting) typically run 5-20% of sump volume. High-production bins commonly collect 5-20+ gallons of liquid coolant. Tip: weigh a full bin wet vs. dried to confirm.
Single shift ≈ 240 days. Two shifts ≈ 480 (use 365 cap with higher daily drag-out instead).
Cost of ready-to-use coolant (concentrate + water at typical 5-10% mix). Most US shops pay $3-$8 per gallon mixed.
Drier chips also mean less liquid going out with the waste. US averages: $20-$200 per 55-gallon drum (~$0.36-$3.64/gal).
One Coolant Saver is required per machine. Savings scale with machine count.
Estimated results
- Reduced manual handling of wet swarf
- Less coolant drag-out and mess around machines
- Improved housekeeping and shop safety
- Higher swarf value — drier swarf achieves better scrap prices
- Reduced frequency of waste collections

Discuss your application →Why coolant recovery matters
Reduce coolant purchases
Recovering and reusing coolant that would otherwise be lost with swarf removal directly reduces your annual coolant fluid spend, typically by up to 50% per machine.
Cut waste disposal costs
Less coolant going to waste means less to dispose of. With disposal costs running at $0.50-$2.00 per gallon, reducing waste volumes by up to 90% delivers significant annual savings.
Improve shop floor conditions
Drier swarf bins mean less mess, less manual handling risk, better housekeeping scores, and higher scrap value from your swarf, benefits the calculator doesn't even capture.
How the Coolant Saver works
CNC machine generates coolant-laden swarf
Swarf conveyor moves swarf to bin, coolant drags out
Wogaard vacuum unit recovers coolant from bin
Recovered coolant returned to machine reservoir
The Coolant Saver connects to your existing coolant pump pressure and uses a venturi effect to create suction at the vacuum cup in the swarf bin. No electrical connection required, it runs entirely from your existing coolant pump. Typical installation time: 30-45 minutes.
